HISTORY OF MOUNT PLEASANT
Around 1845 Mount Pleasant was built specifically for the domestic production of cloth. This terrace of 11 properties all had workshops on the upper floor and a shared tenter field at the bottom of the garden plots. However, the terrace was already an outdated concept and the industrialised mill system was taking over, offering scales of economy and benefits of centralisation that saw the end of domestic cloth production. Mount Pleasant was divided into single dwellings around 1880.
